The shape of an idea that refuses to be split
On integrated thinking, and why the best ideas can't be filed under one heading.
Some ideas arrive pre-labelled. You can file them: this one is finance, that one is design. They behave.
The ones worth keeping don’t. They sit across the seams, and the moment you force them under a single heading they lose the very thing that made them useful.
Resist the filing instinct
The urge to categorise is really an urge to finish thinking. A good idea that spans fields is asking you to hold two frames at once a little longer than is comfortable.
Draw it instead of naming it. The shape of an integrated idea is rarely a list; more often it’s a knot, and the knot is the point.
